The Dread Aegis, husband of Elaine Roberts and father of Molly Roberts.

Personality[]

Westley was well-known as an affable man who had a habit of disregarding orders if there was a better/more efficient/more interesting way available. His brothers and sisters in arms, as well as his crew, remarked often on his dedication to those under his command and how that inspired an intense loyalty for the man. During his stint as the Dread, his crew suffered minimal losses and only retreated when ordered.

History[]

Westley was born in Welkin ERA to Harry and Amelise Roberts, who were rovers working on a birding boat in northern Aperion. He spent much of his young life in the Uplands settlements in the soft peaks.

Roberts joined the local Silverwing Brigade at age 16, despite the legal age for enlistment being 17. Commissioned officers in the Brigade cannot seem to decide if the boy had a silver tongue and wormed his way in, or if his recruiter deliberately lied on his behalf. He toured in the northern parts of Aperion until he was honorably discharged in Welkin YEAR for service to King and Country in the defense of FALLEN CITY during a siege on the now-repopulated town by order of a powerful sect of Bloodsail pirates. This gained him the attention of King Timothy, who named him the Dread Aegis in Welkin YEAR.

As the Dread[]

Westley served as Dread for nearly 15 years. During this time he was known as a marked collaborator and friend to his former servicemen in the Silverwings as well as an explorer in some of the less populated area in Aperion. Many of his missions have been marked as Classified in the official logs; despite the Dread having the King's confidence in most matters, this high number of secretive missions is markedly unusual.

Roberts was known to be a close friend of King Timothy. The King himself presided over his wedding, and was named, in confidence, the godfather of his child, Molly.

His ship was the Flynn's Revenge, a large-ass boat.

Death and Mystery[]

In Welkin YEAR, Roberts disappeared off the radar in a particularly violent storm. Though most of his crew survived, the Dread was reported as Missing in Action. Search efforts proved fruitless, and no man or woman who served aboard the Flynn's Revenge would give investigators any clue to his location. He was officially declared dead in Welkin YEAR. He was survived by his then-12-year-old daughter, Molly Roberts.
